Bio

I am a director of engineering at Fastly, where I manage the teams responsible for designing and building the systems that control and optimize Fastly network infrastructure. I joined Fastly in 2016 and during my tenure I built systems solving problems related to load balancing, distributed health checking, routing resilience, traffic engineering and network telemetry. From 2011 to 2015 I did my Ph.D. at University College London. My thesis investigated design issues in networked caching systems. For my research, I was awarded the Fabrizio Lombardi prize in 2016. From 2008 to 2011 I was a research engineer at Orange Labs. During this period I filed five patent applications and for one of them I received the Orange Labs best patent of the year award in 2011. I received a B.S. in Telecommunications Engineering from Politecnico di Milano (Milan, Italy) in 2007, where I graduated top of my class, and an M.S. in Telecommunications with Distinction from University College London in 2008. I am a reviewer for IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Services Computing, IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, ACM Computing Surveys, IEEE Communications Letters, IEEE Communications Magazine, Elsevier Computer Networks and Elsevier Computer Communications. I served on the program committee of O'Reilly Velocity EU in 2017 and 2018. I am an honorary lecturer at University College London and a member of the IEEE and the ACM.
