The IEEE Photonics Society has awarded a Graduate Student Fellowship to Domaniç Lavery (UCL), an associated student of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Photonic Systems Development.

The fellowships are given annually to recognise outstanding achievements of the society’s graduate student members. The award, including a $1000 honorarium, will be presented in September at the plenary session of the IEEE Photonics Conference in San Francisco, California.

Domaniç is currently in the penultimate year of his Ph.D which he is completing under the supervision of Dr. Seb Savory, in the Optical Networks Group, Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering. He was also recently awarded the Departmental Cullen Prize for the best student poster at the 2012 Departmental Poster Presentation. His research focuses on increasing the capacity of optical access networks through the use of digital coherent transceivers.
