New 2 year MSc with a year in industry

Exclusive internships at Cisco Systems in California

We now offer a highly innovative, 2 year Masters degree with a year in industry open to students on all of our communications engineering MSc and MRes programmes. Students apply in their first term for exclusive year-long paid internships at Cisco Systems in Silicon Valley, California. If successful, postgraduate students will complete an extended industry-focused project whilst being mentored at Cisco. UCL now has more interns on international internships with Cisco than any other university in the world. We are expanding the 2 year MSc programme to include opportunities in a range of other leading companies, both in the UK and overseas and welcome interest from industry. MSc programmes included in this scheme include:

Our Communications MRes and MSc programmes provide the background to understand modern communication systems and are dedicated to training engineers and managers for the ICT and related industries in areas ranging from physical layer communications and devices to networks, services, applications and business considerations.

Alongside the new full time 2 year MSc, our Masters programmes can also be taken full time (one year), part-time or flexibly for ICT and telecoms professionals over a period of 2-5 years. We offer modules covering communication engineering issues relevant to the digital economy of the 21st century including:

  • Wireless and optical devices and systems
  • IP networks
  • Innovating new applications and services
  • Cloud computing
  • Energy efficient computing
  • Convergence of communications and ICT

The Telecommunications with Business MSc is a market leading MSc course addressing the need for more highly skilled technical managers in the ICT and telecommunications industry that have a broad knowledge across both technology and business and rather like a specialist MBA, the programme allows those working in industry to “learn while they earn”. In the video Dr Mike Short CBE FREng FIET, VP of Telefonica Europe explains how this course will provide you with the necessary blend of technical and business skills that are attractive to telecommunications industry recruiters. The course requires students to successfully complete 8 modules (4 Technical and 4 Business) and a dissertation. The programme has been created to enhance the technical skills base that is required to meet the dynamic challenges of today’s industry, empowering both recent graduates and professionals with industry experience to rapidly develop their careers. Students can apply to study the programme over 1 year full time, 2 years part time or 3-5 years flexibly. Individual modules can also be taken on a CPD basis. In addition we offer bespoke courses taught either at UCL or at industrial facilities.
