Sergejs Makovejs

Sergejs Makovejs was born in Volgograd, Russia, in 1983. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from Riga Technical University, Latvia in 2004 and 2006, respectively. Prior to joining the Optical Networks Group at UCL in 2007, he worked at Siemens as a Transportation System Engineer (2006-2007) in the field of rail automation and signalling.

Currently, he is finishing his Ph.D. at UCL in the area of advanced modulation formats for high-speed optical transmission systems.

Mr. Makovejs was shortlisted in the Corning Outstanding Student Paper Competition at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2010 and was awarded a Royal Academy of Engineering Travel Grant to present his work. He also served as a reviewer for Photonics Technology Letters and Optics Express journals, and carried out a consultancy work for the department of product development at Oclaro.
