PhD Students Start Industry Internships
Anouk Van Laer is working for four months with the R&D department of ARM, based in Cambridge. ARM provide designs for energy-efficient processors, which they license to other companies for production. Anouk is working on the detection and elimination of false misses in the cache hierarchy. The internship is in collaboration with HIPEAC, a European network which encourages collaboration between industry and academia.
Muhammad Ridwan Madarbux has just begun a placement with Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs, Antwerp, where he will be working until the end of the year. This internship aims to investigate the potential of using the well-known Content Centric Networking (CCN) abstraction as the networking layer between the machines of a single data-center. New perspectives over data-center topologies and application-based routing schemes encourage us to adapt the CCN namespace in order to support useful primitives in the context of a data-center, such as: transparent relocation of stateless processing nodes, caching of intermediate computation results, multi-homing / load balancing support of several external IP-based interfaces.
