New academic home for Prof. Seb Savory

Prof. Seb Savory joins Churchill College in Cambridge University after 10 wonderful years with the Optical Networks Group

Last December, the Optical Networks Group had to say goodbye not only to 2015 but also to one of the core academic members of the group, Prof. Seb Savory, who accepted an offer from the University of Cambridge to join the Engineering Department as a University Lecturer. His research will be based in the Electrical Engineering Division in West Cambridge and he will also be a Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge. Seb joined ONG in 2005 and since then he has made outstanding contributions to the overall research output of the group, having published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals as well as supervised many PhD students.  While with ONG, Seb held a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship (2005/07), a RAEng/ Leverhulme Trust Senior Research Fellowship (2014/15) and was one of the recipients of the RAEng Colin Campbell Mitchel Award along with 5 other members of ONG in 2015. He also held numerous roles within the technical community, including Editor-in-Chief IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, General Chair for OFC 2015 and Program Chair for OFC 2013. While we won't be able to enjoy the spontaneous discussion with Seb at the coffee lounge, members of the group will continue to collaborate with him on various projects. Partners of the UNLOC project have unanimously agreed to keep Seb as a key figure in the programme. We wish Seb a prolific academic career in his new academic home.
