Technique from the 70s may hold the key to expand optical communications capacity

Researchers from Aston University and the Optical Networks Group in University College London working on the UNLOC project confirmed experimentally that a laser-based technique first proposed in the 70s can be successfully applied in long distance fibre communications systems to significantly increase their capacity and reach.
