5G Network research projects receive € 1.7 million EU funding

UCL to collaborate with Atos and Ericsson

Many congratulations to Prof Alex Galis who has lead two successful research project applications related to 5G networks with Senior Research Fellow Stuart Clayman, Research Associate Marinos Charalambides and Principal Research Associate David Griffin.

The researchers, based in the Communication and Information Systems Group, received a total of € 1.7 million from the 5GPPP ICT EU initiative for these projects. There was a very competitive submission with 78 proposals and only 17 funded, so this is a fantastic result. The projects will start around September 2015 and both of them have industry leads.

They are as follows:

  • SONATA - "Service Programming and Orchestration for 5G Virtualised Software Networks” - lead by Atos
  • 5GEx  - "Multi-domain and multi-technology software networks” - lead by Ericsson
