Best Student Paper Award
Carsten Behrens, a PhD Student in the UCL Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, today received the Best Student Paper Award at ECOC2011 (the European Conference on Optical Communications). This was the inaugural student award and the only one given this year.
The award was for his paper "Ultra-long-haul transmission of 7×42.9Gbit/s PS-QPSK and PM-BPSK" with co-authors Domaniç Lavery, Sergejs Makovejs, David Millar, Robert Killey, Seb Savory, Benn Thomsen and Polina Bayvel.
ECOC is the largest conference on optical communication in Europe and one of the most prestigious and long-standing events in this field worldwide. ECOC 2011, held in Geneva, Switzerland, is the 37th edition of the conference. It will be held in London in 2013.
