Editor in Chief of IEEE Photonics Technology Letters:

Dr Seb Savory appointed

The UCL Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering is proud to announce that Dr Seb Savory has been appointed Editor in Chief of IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. The appointment will take effect from the 1st January 2012.

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters (PTL) offers rapid, archival publication of original research relevant to photonics technology. PTL papers are now posted online immediately after proofs are received, providing extremely rapid publication. PTL is published in complete issues online in colour twice a month and in hardcopy form in mostly black and white once every two months.

Dr Savory's interest in optical communications began in 1991, when he joined Standard Telecommunications Laboratories, Harlow, U.K., prior to being sponsored though his undergraduate and postgraduate studies with Nortel. In 2000, he joined Nortel’s Harlow Laboratories as a Senior Research Engineer, where he was engaged in research into digital signal processing and advanced optical transmission systems. In 2005, he joined the Optical Networks Group, University College London (UCL), where he held a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship from 2005 to 2007, being appointed as a University Lecturer in 2007. From June 2009 to June 2010, he was also a Visiting Professor at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. His research interests include digital coherent transceivers, optical transmission systems and subsystems, digital signal processing, and nonlinear systems.
