PhD, MIET, MIEEE
John Mitchell received the B.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic and
Electrical Engineering from UCL (University College London), UK in 1996 and
2000, respectively. In 1999 he became a research fellow in the Department of
Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL, becoming a Lecturer and Senior
Lecturer in Telecommunications in September 2000 and 2006 respectively.
He has published over 40 papers in the area of optical communications.
His research interests include optical access technologies and the transport
of millimetre wave radio signals over optical fibre for communications, and
noise relating to crosstalk in optical networks. Dr Mitchell is a member of
the Institute of Electronic Engineers (IEE) and the IEEE Lasers and
Electro-Optics Society (IEEE-LEOS)
Research areas of interest include:
- Radio-over-fibre systems for future mobile communications systems, fixed wireless access network platforms and optical beamforming networks.
- Noise and interference effects in high capacity WDM optical networks.
- Novel modulation schemes for fixed radio access.
- Access network technologies and IP-voice convergence.
