Understanding Telecommunications Networks

Prof Andy Valdar’s new textbook published by the IET

Prof. Andy Valdar, an Honorary Visiting Professor to the Department, has just had his fourth text book published by the IET. ‘Understanding Telecommunications Networks 2nd Edition’ is an updated and expanded version of his earlier book which came out in 2006. The book addresses all technical aspects of today’s telecommunications networks – covering for voice and data, fixed and mobile access, backhaul and core transmission, circuit and packet switching, service control, signalling, and operations. This text, which is suitable for Masters and Undergraduate students, aims to explain how all the network elements fit together to provide services to the end users. The book is a course textbook for our MSc Telecommunications with Business students. This is a companion volume to ‘Understanding Telecommunications Business’ authored by Andy Valdar and the Department’s Teaching fellow, Ian Morfett.

Professor Valdar, a former BT executive, lectures on Telecoms strategy and features in the video below about our Telecommunications with Business MSc.
