Why UCL?

Our approach to the teaching of electronics focuses on the rigorous study of the fundamentals of the subject balanced with effective practical application. Experience has proven this leads to well rounded graduates whose skills are highly valued by employers within the Engineering industries as well as in many other fields such as IT, Finance and Consultancy Services. We pride ourselves on providing small group teaching and tutorials with academic teaching staff to support and enhance the learning process.

IET logoOur range of degree programmes, have common first and second year courses with the flexibility to change between our different programmes up to the end of the second year. We encourage students to complete the full four years of study and obtain an MEng degree, because this is the best route to Chartered Engineer status; however all our degree programmes are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

We take pride in our international reputation, and the international profile of our students. Through our International Programme we offer the opportunity to spend a year studying at a prestigious international institution, in Europe, the US or Australia.

As a department, we are always keen to encourage, develop and reward excellence in our students. We offer scholarships to both home (UK/EU) and overseas students as well as encouraging our applicants to apply to other schemes that are available.

Learn with the Best

As a research-led department, we offer the intellectual stimulation that comes from world-class research activity: you are being taught by people at the forefront of their field of research.

Union

Find out about the activities available at the UCL Union and the University of London Union

Studying and living in the heart of London provides a wealth of opportunities to experience a vast range of cultural, sporting and international events.

As you would expect from a major university, UCL offers many student societies.

The Department organises social events throughout the year, and in the first year, students have the opportunity to spend three days at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park. Cumberland Lodge is a residential centre in Windsor Great Park, home of Windsor Castle, one of Britain’s most popular attractions. All first year students have the opportunity to stay for three days in the middle of the first term. The time is spent on activities considering moral, cultural and professional issues pertinent to Electronic Engineering students. This is a fantastic opportunity to stay in an environment not open to the general public, and discuss matters relevant to engineering but without concentrating on the technical details for once!

Students within the Department are involved in the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE) and in particular with the Institution of Engineering and Technology, London Younger Members Section. We also hold career events and other professional meetings.

The department has many activities for staff and students. Annual events include a Summer Garden Party, the Christmas party and the departmental cricket match (score cards and photos are available on the events web page).
