Research Associate or Senior Research Associate position in Content-oriented, Edge-/Fog-Computing & Networking
As part of our work within a number of UK EPSRC and EU-funded projects, the UCL EEE Communications and Information Systems Group invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in Content-Oriented, Edge-/Fog-Computing & Networking.
Our current projects focus on innovative Information-Centric Networking architectures and investigate this future-networking paradigm from several different perspectives. We aim to design and develop a communication and information infrastructure for both mobile, opportunistic communication environments, but also for fixed, edge-/fog-computing networks. As such, research expertise and design/implementation experience in any of the following areas is highly relevant: content-oriented networks, edge-/fog-computing, opportunistic/mobile communications, routing and resource management, congestion control, traffic engineering.
We are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher, ideally with substantial experience, to join our team and help us fulfil the projects’ goals, producing quality research, design and development work and publishing high quality research papers. The successful candidate will work within an established research team in the Communications and Information Systems Group led by Dr Ioannis Psaras and Prof. George Pavlou. The position is ideal for someone with experience in working in and possibly running research projects and who is also eager to contribute to design and implementation efforts.
Applicants are required to have a PhD in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or a related field. They also need to have knowledge and/or hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: content-oriented architectures; information-centric networking; edge-/fog-computing; opportunistic networks; resource management and congestion control; software-defined networks. Algorithm design skills are essential and a good publication record is also important. The work will involve the design of new models, algorithms and protocols, some of which will need to be implemented in the projects’ testbeds, an effort that will be led by the successful candidate. If a candidate has experience of leading research activities in terms of guiding small research teams and of applying for and getting research grants, then s/he could be employed as Senior Research Associate.
The position is for 1 year full time in the first instance starting as soon as possible (ideal starting date within November 2016). Further funding to support the post may be available. The candidate is required to relocate to London.
Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. The Research Associate post is Grade 7, starting salary £33,686 per annum and maximum salary £40,716 per annum, both including London Allowance which is currently £2,948 per annum. The Senior Research Associate post is Grade 8, starting salary £41,844 per annum and maximum salary £49,362 per annum, both including London Allowance.
