Research Associate/ Senior Research Associate position in Software Defined Infrastructures
As part of our work within a series of EU-funded H2020 projects, the UCL EEE Communications and Information Systems Group invites applications for a post-doctoral research position in Software Defined Infrastructures for Networks, Clouds and Services in the context of future 5G Networking.
Our current projects focus on innovative Software Defined Infrastructures and Architectures and investigate this future 5G networking paradigm from several different angles. We aim to design and develop an infrastructure that encompasses connectivity, information, and services with applicability to both fixed and mobile 5G networks and service provisioning. As such, expertise and implementation experience in any of the following areas is highly relevant: Network and Service Function Virtualisation, Network Function Virtualisation, Software Defined Networks, Programmable Networks, System Management, Distributed Systems, and Operating Systems.
We are looking for a talented post-doctoral researcher, ideally with substantial experience, to join our team and help us fulfil the projects’ goals, producing quality research, undertaking design and development work, as well as publishing journal-level research papers. The successful candidate will work within an established research team in the Communications and Information Systems Group. The position is ideal for researchers with experience of working in, and possibly running, EU-funded projects and who are, at the same time, keen to contribute to the design and implementation efforts.
Applicants are required to have a PhD in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related field. They also need to have knowledge and/or hands on experience in one or more of the following areas: Network and Service Function Virtualisation, Software Defined Networks, Programmable Networks, System Management, Cloud Networking and Computing, Distributed Systems, or Operating Systems. Algorithm design, system programming skills are essential, and a good publication record is also important. The work will involve the design of new models, algorithms, protocols, and software tools for distributed components and systems. Some of these will need to be implemented as open source software components that can be utilised with the existing open source software defined infrastructure developed at UCL (http://clayfour.ee.ucl.ac.uk), and such an effort will be led by the successful candidates. For appointment at Senior Research Associate level, applicants must have expertise in one or more of the following ley topics in computer networking: IP networks, wireless networks, overlay networks, communications protocols.
The position is available until 31/03/2018 in the first instance, full time starting as soon as possible (ideal start September 2016). Further funding to support the post may be available. The candidates are required to relocate to the London area.
Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. The Research Associate post is Grade 7, starting salary £33,686 to £40,716 per annum. The Senior Research Associate post is Grade 8, starting salary £41,844 to £49,362 per annum. Salaries quoted are inclusive of London Allowance of £2,948 per annum.
