Foreword:

Welcome to the London Communications Symposium 2002. This year we have seen an exceptional response with well over 110 papers submitted, of which 96 have been accepted by the review process for presentation. This represents contributions from researchers at 22 UK universities, as well as a number of industrial bodies, and European universities.

We are proud to continue the tradition of offering a forum for young researchers to be able to present current work in the area of communications, at a meeting, which is less formal than many others. We are pleased to present an accompanying programme of plenary presentation from both international academics and leading industrial figures.

We would like to thank all those involved in the organisation of the meeting for their hard work. Special thanks must go to the 'army' of reviewers who diligently looked at all the papers in just 3 weeks in August.

We are very grateful to all registrants for their support of this meeting, which we feel provides valuable experience for young engineers. We hope you find the programme both stimulating and interesting.

Finally, we look forward to seeing you at LCS 2003.
