Dr Zhixin Liu

Zhixin Liu received the Ph.D. degree in Information Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2012. He joined the Corning Fibre Incorporated as a qualification engineer in 2009. Upon Ph.D. graduation, he received the Hong Kong Creative Fund and cofounded a start-up company. He joined the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) in the University of Southampton, UK, in 2013 and became a Senior Research Fellow in 2015. In 2016, he joined the Optical Networks Group at UCL as a Lecturer.

Research Interests

Zhixin Liu is a newly appointed lecturer and a member of the Optical Networks Group at the Electronic & Electrical Engineering Department in UCL. His research aims at investigating optical components and subsystems for enabling larger data transmission capacities with a simultaneous reduction in power consumption and system complexity. His research interests are (i) Optical transmitters for short and medium reach optical communication systems using optical signal processing and photonic integration; (ii) Analysis and characterization of laser dynamics for generation of high-fidelity signals; (iii) Digital and analog signal processing for low latency and power-aware optical communications.
