KTP Associate: Autonomous Robotics Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Engineering Masters / PhD qualified candidate to fast-track their career into business by leading a high profile and strategically important project to a successful conclusion. Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will be working with Techna International and the UCL Electronic & Electrical Engineering Department and UCL Computer Science to design and develop autonomous robotic solutions for compact warehouse applications thereby embedding capabilities in Techa for future growth. The project outcomes will provide a functional prototype robot that can be deployed within the company's warehouse and replicated quickly to other customer sites.

The successful applicant will be based at the company premises in Watford, but will be employed by UCL for the duration of the project, a period of 28 months in the first instance. Members of UCL's Electronic & Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Departments will provide academic and technical support throughout the project.

The post carries a £4,600 dedicated training budget for the candidate. Whilst funding is available to support this post for 28 months in the first instance, this project is crucial to delivering a long term vision for Techna and significant personal and career opportunities may be available for the right candidate beyond the initial 28 month period.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate should possess a First of 2.1 degree in Electronics & Electrical Engineering / Computer Science (or closely related subject) combines with a relevant Masters level qualification. They should also have experience in robotic and/or embedded software development and knowledge of ROS (Robot Operating System) Linux, C and/or MCU programming. A PhD in Robotics is desirable and a requirement to be appointed at Grade 7. Appointment at Grade 6 or 7 will be dependent on the candidate's skills and experience.

Salary  (inclusive of London allowance)

Grade 6 £27,545 - £32,281 per annum / Grade 7 £34,056 - £41,163 per annum

If the successful candidate is about to complete their PhD, appointment will be made at Grade 6, point 24 - 26, on the UCL salary scale £29,809 and £31,432 per annum (inclusive of London Allowance) with payment at Grade 7, point 29 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the constraints and the specifications of such solutions. The proposed system is complex and challenging and the candidate must be able to plan and manage a complex Research & Development (R&D) project, gaining project management, critical thinking skills, decision making skills and applied research skill; all within a commercial context.
