Research Associate in Electronic Sensors and Instrumentation

We wish to recruit a Research Associate from 1st February 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter to work on an industry funded project involving developing a custom medical device for monitoring the adherence of how patients use prescribed medical devices. The collaborative project has a dynamic multi-disciplinary consortium of scientists, engineers and clinicians delivering research excellence towards manufacturing a novel medical device. The postholder will work with Dr Xiao Liu of UCL Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Prof Chris O’Callaghan of UCL Great Ormond Street Hospital Institute of Child Health. The research associate will be part of the Sensors, Systems and Circuits Group at the UCL Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

The appointment will be for 12 months in the first instance and further funding to support the post may be available.

We are looking for a talented researcher, with strong track record in designing electronic sensors, systems and instrumentation, to join our team and help us fulfill the project’s goals, producing quality research, undertaking design and development work, as well as publishing journal-level research papers. A first degree in electronic engineering or physical science subject, and proven capability in designing and testing electronic devices and systems as well as instrumentations are required for this post. Candidates should hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD. The appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded the PhD; if the successful candidate has not completed his/her PhD yet, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6. Non-PhD applicants will be considered if they can demonstrate significant industrial experience in working on electronic sensors and instrumentation. The starting grade for non-PhD applicants will be dependent on experience.

Salary:Research Associate Grade 7, salary range from £34,635 to £39,644 (inc. London Allowance of £3031 per annum) depending on the experience.

A PhD degree (or about to submit) in electronic engineering, or closely related discipline is required. If the successful candidate has not completed their PhD yet, appointment will be made at Research Assistant level at Grade 6B point 24-26, on the UCL salary scale £30,316 and £31,967 per annum ) with payment at Grade 7, point 29 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis (including corrections).

Non-PhD applicants will be considered if they can demonstrate significant industrial experience working on electronic sensors and instrumentation. The salary will be dependent on experience.

Applicants should also have a strong track record and proven capabilities in designing sensors, transducers, electronic instrumentations and devices for industrial or medical applications.
