Research Associate in the EPSRC National Semiconductor Epitaxy Facility – Group-IV Molecular Beam Epitaxy

We wish to recruit a Research Associate from 1st June 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter to work in the EPSRC National Semiconductor Epitaxy Facility at UCL, with a research focus on the molecular beam epitaxy of group IV materials, including silicon, germanium, and tin. This group IV epitaxy facility is part of the EPSRC National Semiconductor Epitaxy Facility, led by Sheffield University in collaboration with Cambridge University, and UCL. The duration of the appointment will be 36 months in the first instance, further funding to support the post to a possible extension to 60 months may be available.

The EPSRC National Semiconductor Epitaxy Facility plays a central role in enabling world-leading research in UK universities by supplying advanced semiconductor epitaxial materials. It has wide ranging capabilities in epitaxy and device fabrication. As well as supporting UK university research, the Facility plays an equally significant role in enabling developments in UK industry. Our mission at UCL is to provide collaborative access to world class expertise and facilities for group IV semiconductor growth by Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE). This Research Associate will be part of UCL's MBE Group, and work under Dr Jiang Wu, Professor Alwyn Seeds, and Professor Huiyun Liu using the newly commissioned state-of–the-art group IV MBE facility in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

A first degree in engineering or a physical sciences subject, and proven capability in the molecular beam epitaxy of group IV semiconductors is required for this post. Candidates should hold, or be about to obtain, a PhD. in relevant area of semiconductor technology.

Salary Details

Grade 7 – Salary: £34,056 - £40,055 per annum (inclusive of London Allowance of £2980 per annum)

A PhD (or working towards a PhD) in a relevant subject is required. If the successful candidate has not completed their PhD yet, appointment will be made at Research Assistant level at Grade 6 point 24-26, on the UCL salary scale (£29,809 - £31,432 per annum including London Allowance of £2980 pa), with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis including corrections.
