Dr Andreas Demosthenous was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. He received a B.Eng. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University of Leicester in 1992, a M.Sc. in Telecommunications Technology from Aston University in 1994 and a Ph.D. in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College London (UCL) in 1998. From 1998 to 2000 he held a postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering department at UCL. In September 2000 he was appointed as a Lecturer in the same department and was subsequently promoted to a Senior Lecturer and a Reader. He is leading the Analogue and Medical Electronics Research Group.

Dr Demosthenous is a Senior IEEE member, a member of the EPSRC Peer Review College, and a member of the Analog Signal Processing Technical Committee (ASPTC) of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. He is currently serving as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II and as an associate editor for the IEEE CAS Electronic Newsletter.

His research activities include:

·         Analogue and mixed-signal integrated circuit design in CMOS and BiCMOS technologies

·         Implantable biomedical circuits and medical instrumentation

·         Integrated circuits for industrial sensor applications

·         Image and video compression

·         Error control coding

·         Data converter design for mobile applications
