An intense game saw Accounts claim full points from a bewildered CCFC side. Ambrose led his side by example weighing in with two quality goals in both halves. This opens a new chapter in this season's championship.
The game held a goal-free score for a good five minutes until Ambrose leapt on a square ball to cut it across the goal, beating Bates. The Referee had to deal with some ferocious defending by Account's back man, who had decided he wanted a few of CCFC's bodily parts for memorabilia. Banks came close with a low shot that just went wide for CCFC.
A change of ends saw the game increase in pressure as both sides pushed for control of the game.Account's failure to close Walsh, who found him self in considerable space near the half-way line, saw the score leveled as he fired a shot off the wall, dumb-founding the `keeper. To thwart any ideas of a come-back up stepped Ambrose to score yet another stunning goal. CCFC started showing signs of edginess and this led to a third goal from Account's very own Vinny Jones. This, we thought, may calm him down but he continued with some excessively strong tackling that didn't go unnoticed by the ref, who had already told him to calm down at the interval.
Walsh scored a mirror image of his first goal except this one came from a free kick to raise CCFC's hopes, but they failed to match Account's physical game. The absence of Ayling was apparent. With Corden on for Banks, Account's hot headed defender pushed his luck too far and earned himself a booking. CCFC's Hajisavvi nearly copied his adversary by sliding in with an ill timed tackle, but the card stayed in the ref's back pocket. Another rash tackle by Account's back man let Hajisavvi through to place the ball past the `keeper, unfortunately the ref stood by his whistle and a free kick was taken at the point of the foul. Accounts held on for a great result for them. CCFC did not have a physical player on the bench to counter the opposition's tactics.
UCL Geography 6, School of Oriental and African Studies 1:
Gaz, the league's biggest character led SOAS into another hard fixture against a solid Geography side. When SOAS put together the passes they looked good but they tried too much, too often. Geography peeled away with some spectacular goals, not least the first -- a long shot from their own half. Not even Gaz's constant verbal could make SOAS stick to their marking as frustration grew. A shot that hit the underside of the crossbar raised a shout from SOAS, but the ref correctly ignored them. The shot's instigator wasn't so quick to forget it.
The second half looked to be a sequel to the first as two more goals went in for Geography. SOAS increased the physical side of their game and when Geography changed two players the game's only conciliation goal was scored. The two fresh faces were new to the league and the game turned scrappy in the dying minutes as both teams failed to forge any pattern.
