WEEK 15: RESULTS: Logica Bamboozlers 8, School of Oriental and African Studies 2 (SOAS had 3 players):

SOAS had boosted their squad with the signing of Landers, on loan to the end of the season from CCFC. This didn’t prevent them from being a player short in a fixture where you’d prefer an extra man to balance the sides.

Landers surprised BAM by scoring first, straight from the kick-off. This was the last inkling of a possible upset as BAM’s already impressive goal tally for the season was soon increasing. To their credit the score was only 3 - 1 at half time but BAM easily had the run of play and were possibly being kind.

BAM took the score-line to 6-1 with some quality goals and SOAS were tiring badly with the extra running. Gaz made the score more creditable with a shot that just crept past BAM’s ‘keeper. BAM finished the game off with two more goals. The fixtures were running behind time so the ref graciously knocked the lost minutes off SOAS’s exhausting experience.

UCL Zoology 4, University London Union 2:

A strange game, but with plenty of highlights and goals. ULU took the lead in the first minute with some sharp play as Zoo started slowly. Giving them the message that the game had started Zoo went on the offensive. ULU replied with some resolute defending -- frustrating Zoo’s shooting. It was a good move by Zoo that finished in a classy back-heal going wide which led to ULU’s second. Catching Zoo on the break and a break neck shot into the top right. Zoo almost immediately replied and added a second a minute later catching ULU out with two against one at the back.

The second half looked promising in retrospect of the first. It was very tight Zoo hit the bar as ULU started straining under the pressure and only a good save a few minutes later stopped the score changing. Zoo’s defender lunged in with a bad tackle nearly earning himself a booking. The resulting free kick was wasted and ULU’s vigor went with it. We then witnessed a contender for goal of the season as Zoo’s forward chested the ball and buried the ball on the volley to take the lead. There were questions of whether the chest had sent it over head height but it stood. Zoo made it safe as their midfielder latched on to a pass and turned his shot across the goal, beating the ‘keeper. It was tight for 3/4’s of the game but Zoo pushed further at the end. ULU gave a display that doesn’t point to their position in the league.

UCL Geography 4, Senate House Operators 4:

Ops probably eager to match their counterparts at Accounts who beat CCFC last week, didn’t win but took part in a thrilling game. Both teams took time to find their feet and it was Geog who took the lead after a few minutes utilising a loose ball which Ops failed to pick up upon. Another loose ball fell to the feet of a Geog man a minute later and he promptly blasted it home. They nearly added another but a great save from Op’s ‘keeper led to the score being made 2 - 1. Then followed a piece of pure class as Op’s man caught Geog square, went to shoot sending the ‘keeper diving, dragged the ball back and placed it neatly in the goal. This followed a great shot from Geog that stretched the length of the pitch. Ops took the lead with a long shot into the top right.

The teams swapped ends and Geog leveled the scores with a missile of a shot and nearly took the lead but a good saved denied them a minute later. A small fracas was quickly cleared up by the ref and a drop ball. Ops midfielder nut-megged his marker clinically and watched his shot hit the bar but the rebound was put away by his team mate. Great team work from Geog saw the ball neatly crossed sending the ‘keeper the wrong way for a draw that both sides deserved.
