WEEK 5:AEGIS CUP:ZOOLOGY 1 COMPUTER CENTRE FC 2
The best match of the season so far saw CCFC progress strongly into the next
round of the Aegis Cup. The two sides have nearly always provided great
entertainment in thier clashes and the low score-line pays homage to how tight
the game was.
A silence of anticipation met the two teams as they waited for the whistle.
With kick-off gone CCFC took shape and started to pressure ZOO's defence. Each
time they found the door shut and had to play back down the field and start
again or have a rash poke at goal, to which ZOO's 'keeper was always ready.
The marking on both sides was exemplary and was only frayed 3 minutes from
half time when Walsh cracked a long shot wide and as the defender failed to
work out where it was going Hajisavvi controlled and neatly broke the
deadlock.
The rest of the half was played out with continued intensity and half time
must have come as some relief for the two teams. Bates used his possesion
brilliantly and started many of CCFC's most effective moves, it was his outlay
to Ayling that led to Hajisavvi pouncing on the rebound and with a quick swipe
of the ball it was 2 - 0.
ZOO had made a substitution at the interval who was relatively new to the
game. This showed when Hajisavvi was through on goal only to have one of them chop
him down with a sliding tackle. With no damage done the referee wisely advised
the two new players of the rules and play carried on. Hajisavvi was replaced
by Banks and as legs tired play opened up.
This led to a goal for ZOO but not a collapse from CCFC. Not once did it feel
like they would walk away the losers but ZOO were going to make them battle
all the same. Banks returned the sliding tackle to CCFC's new found friend on
the opposition and sent him crashing into the wall. Luckily it looked worse than
it appeared and he got up a little shaken. A fine performance for both sides
and a deserved victory for CCFC.
