Unfortunately I missed this one, congratulations to Birkbeck on their opening game being a win!
SOBEK: Conroy, Bailey, Lermouth, Sidhu
BIRK: Phalp, Card, Kettle (Burgis), Tisi
A very tight game, no score at half time - second half report only.
Both teams had their players rigorously sticking to their tasks, this made breaking the deadlock an especially difficault job. UCLH came closest the first half when Maxwell hit a shot off the wall only for Kernian to make a good save. Bird nearly took advantage imeadiately for GEOG but again a good save from Pieris kept the scoresheet blank.
The teams battled away continuously, but it seemed destined for a well earned point all round. That is, untill an inspired substitution saw 'Dobbo' come on for Montieth and score from a loose ball on the left wing in the penultimate minute. Good play all round.
GEOG: Kernian, Bird, Monteith (Dobinson), Sayer
UCLH: Pieris, Maxwell, O'Driscoll, Sanderson
It's hard to decide who had the harder time in this game. Was it the players running around frantically, or the spectators trying to keep up with it.
BAM set the ball rolling when Abbott turned and shot in the first minute with the ball going inches wide. ULU woke up and tightened up and for the next few minutes it looked like a repeat of the previous game. Then Abbott sqeezed a square ball between two ULU players for Xenophontos to fire home from the half way line. Ferrell nearly replied instantly when Tassell put him through only to shoot wide when the keeper was frozen. ULU did beat Pennington with their next attempt - when Avery slammed home a half volley from a bouncing cross field ball. 1 - 1 it stayed untill half time.
BAM again were denied an early lead when Tassell made an excellent tackle after Fleming was put through. Eventually Xenophontos got to make his trademark 'madman' celebration as BAM broke through again. Abbott, again the provider, sent him through to power his shot enougth for Strawbridge to fumble. BAM were gaining the upper hand by now and the pressure led to a penalty which Abbott deposited neatly. ULU quicly replied when Ferrell ran the length of the pitch and powered a shot in the top right. Abbott then ran clear a minute later to wrong foot the keeper and add BAM's forth. Avery hit a shot wide and Xenophontos was slow to react as Ferrell added another, but it was to late to take any points.
BAM: Pennington, Abbott, Fleming, Xenophontos
ULU: Strawbridge, Avery, Ferrell, Tassell.
