The new year kicked off with many needing to work off the extra Christmas Pudding. SOBEK were looking to go top, but UCLH had other ideas.
It was all quite tepid to start with, but Howard-Jones was causing all sorts of bother for SOBEK and only two fine saves from Coombs kept the scoreline square. After five minutes, UCLH's pressure paid off as Sanderson poached a goal in a scramble at the edge of the area. A minute later Howard-Jones got a deserved goal when he dummied a shot, cut inside the defender and struck neatly under the keeper.
After the break SOBEK livened up, which is often the case when Laws comes on (for Sidhu). Howard-Jones, although a menace going forward, has questionable defensive abilities. He had to pit those against a very agressive laws and SOBEK soon were on level terms. Coombs threw out for Bailey to turn neatly on the ball and shoot past the keeper. Laws added the second when he cut across the defender turning to shoot under the keeper.
This is not the UCLH of old though, and the heads stayed up and the marking improved. Sanderson stole all the points when he read Coomb's throw out and returned the ball in the bottom left of goal from his own half. A certain member of CCFC in the crowd looked pleased for some reason.
UCLH: Bowen, Howard-Jones, O'Driscoll, Sanderson
SOBEK: Coombs, Bailey, Lermouth, Sidhu (Laws)
A strange set of fixtures saw a complete dress rehearsal for the Aegis Cup Semi Finals, as BAM took on ZOO and SOAS against ULU. BAM will need to work on their marking if they want some silverware this season. Their attacking play is starting to look something like the way it was when they picked up trophies for fun.
Within the first minute ZOO had taken the lead, Brandon was busying himself and duely hit the rebound in after a good save by Honour from his first effort. He added another a minute later when he intercepted a pass and thumped the ball past the keeper. BAM didn't lie down and replied quickly when Bramwell squared for Flemming to power home from the ege of the area. This was a suprisingly energetic game for the first week after Christmas and mis-timed tackle saw ZOO stretch the lead further. Brandon took the free kick quickly, passing to an unmarked Wood who put the ball away before BAM could move.
ZOO started the second half much as they did the first, this time Parsons ran from his own box to hit a long shot in the bottom left. He added his second after reading a throw out by Honour and returned it straight in the bottom left of goal. BAM had made plenty of chances with Abbott now on for Bramwell, but it was the arrival of Tyrell for Flemming that saw them start scoring again. After a darting run he mishit his shot against the wall but the rebound fell kindly for him to smash it past the keeper. Then Abbott raised BAM's hopes when he found himself in space to tuck past a diving Cummings. Wood saw then end to that as he hit a half volley in to make it 3 - 6 and two points to ZOO.
BAM: Honour, Bramwell (Abbott), Flemming (Tyrell), Xenophontos
ZOO: Cummings, Brandon, Parsons, Wood
