An absolute classic. Both sides provided a top game with a see-saw score-line. ULU made the first breakthrough after a minute when Tassell's shot hit off Ayling's knee on to the wall and into the goal, leaving Heagney wondering where he was. The next minute saw Brown lay a diagonal pass to Ferrell who shot under the keeper. CCFC looked out of sorts and ULU capitalised in the third minute when Tassell broke through the middle and side footed in the bottom left. Against the run of play, Ferrell lost the ball at the edge of his box letting Hajisavvi poach a goal back. This rallied CCFC who got organised and started containing play. In the ninth minute the ref accidently blew his whistle and played on - CCFC did, ULU didn't, Hajisavvi smashed his second home.
The tables turned in the second half as CCFC grabbed a quick goal when Dyer, on for Banks, dribbled round one player and laid a neat sqaure ball for Hajisavvi to hit home. ULU replied quickly when Ferrell hit a diagonal shot past the diving Heagney, who along with Strawbridge was keeping the scoreline from going astronomic. Ayling hit a quick free-kick in as ULU struggled to organise and Hajisavvi scored from the centre to make it 4 - 5 to CCFC.
Ferrell then tackled, ran and blasted ULU's equaliser in the same minute. A shot over the bar rebounded to Hajisavvi, who tried to chest it to Heagney but nearly put it in his own net. Heagney recovered from the first shot to save but it landed at Tassell's feet, 6 - 5. In the last minute Ferrell played the ball into Tassell's path, he looked up and placed a neat shot past Heagney. Strawbridge's throw out was intercepted by Hajisavvi who added one more for CCFC, but another ULU goal by Brown - nicking a mis-controlled ball made comebacks impossible.
ULU: Strawbridge, Brown, Ferrell, Tassell
CCFC: Heagney, Ayling, Banks (Dyer), Hajisavvi
After a scrappy build up, a couple of goals then led to a tense, tactical last 15 minutes. BAM were playing possesion football at first, but were pinned back by resolute defending by GEOG. Gradually BAM were pushed back in their own half and on two minutes Sayer scored for GEOG. With no pressure on him, he picked his spot and deposited the ball in the bottom right. BAM then lost their keeper, Davies with hamstring trouble, on came Tyrrell to replace him. Tyrrell's unconventional style served him well as he managed to get something behind GEOG's efforts. But his heroics were matched by Ryves in GEOG's goal. That is untill GEOG's Rose scrapped to win a ball and shot past a unawares Tyrell. BAM waited only a minute to level matters when Xenophontos broke through only to shoot over, but the rebound fell only for Flemming to hit home.
The second half came and went with both sides failing to capitalise on chances, denied either by the keepers or the goal frame. So on to Golden goal time, pressure mounted as the vital goal didn't seem to be coming from anywhere. GEOG had a fair shout for a penalty as Tyrrell handled outside his area, but was deemed to be un-intentional. It lay with one of the leagues most charismatic players to end proceedings, only two minutes from penalties. Xenophontos battled the ball between two players and gave the shot all he had - luckily it was enougth to beat the impressive Ryves and a crazy goal celebration ensued.
BAM: Davies (Tyrrell), Abbott, Flemming, Xenophontos
GEOG: Ryves, Henderson, Rose (Bird), Sayer (Ridual)
