A thoroughly proffesional performance from CCFC saw them go 6 points clear of second placed SOBEK. Within a minute Hajisavvi had put CCFC ahead with a neat step over the ball and shot in the bottom left. Banks set Hajisavvi up for his second with a square free kick. Hajisavvi took one touch and then hit it in the bottom left. Pressure from Ayling forced Shaw into finding his own net to take the score into half time at 3 - 0.
Dyer came on for Ayling and put in a great performance from his ever improving game. It was Hajisavvi who made the first blow of the second half when he won a tussle and slotted neatly under the keeper. Dyer then had a goal strangely disallowed for what, in the referee's eyes, was an overhead ball. On the day it denied Dyer his hat-trick, but two well taken goals sealed CCFC's victory in style. Hajisavvi, in control of the pitch, backhealed a free-kick to Dyer who hit past a diving keeper. Dyer's second saw CCFC win the centre from his first effort and him smacking the ball into the top right. Bates did an admirable job as deputy to an injured Heagney..
CCFC: Bates, Ayling (Dyer), Banks, Hajisavvi
ACCTS: Baros, Gordon, Shaw, Spencer
SOAS's best win of the season - only their third saw them go third from bottom. Walsh commanded the game with some neat passing and defensive work. The only goal of the first half was in SOAs's favour and was the best team effort I've seen all season. Dwyer took the ball on the half way line from SOAS and dinked it between two GEOG players to Ralph. Ralph then spun and hit a square ball to the advancing Walsh, who hit it first time under the keeper.
The second half started differently and SOAS's old habit of throwing away two points seemed to be creeping in again. Some poor defending saw Sayer make the most of a loose ball with a blast past the keeper. SOAS hit back quickly when Walsh passed down the line for Dwyer to hit it in on the turn. Walsh again proved the play maker when he won the ball and a neat jinked pass to Ralph saw him turn on the edge of the box and hit it under the keeper. Dwyer battled to win the ball for his second and SOAS's forth with another hit on the turn. Ralph, whose footwork had impressed all the game, returned Walsh's set-up with one of his own. After dummying the shot a cut pass beat two defenders and Walsh slotted home.
GEOG: Ryves, Dobbinson, Rioval (Curtis), Rose (Sayer)
SOAS: Lerwill, Dwyer, Ralph, Walsh
It was hard work keeping up with this game, for a long time I felt it was worth a draw, but ZOO stepped up a gear to grapple the two points from BIRK.
BIRK opened the extensive scoreline with Tisi, on a slow road back to form from injury, sped down the wing and fired across the goal in the bottom left. BIRK extended their lead a minute later when Card won the ball and blasted it past ZOO's keeper. This woke ZOO up and the Aegis Cup holders were back in it with a nifty ducking header by Wood. The battle went on in a high tempo with some wonderful passing by both teams. ZOO made it to half time in the lead. Cummings did the damage as he first ran on to a pass, tucking the ball past the keeper. His second was hit faster than a bullet to give BIRK's keeper no chance and ZOO the lead.
Still worth a draw thought I. ZOO then extended their lead. Brandon hit a beauty from the half way line to make the score 4 - 2. BIRK hit back, Card played keepy-up on the half way line before half volleying the ball into the top left. Brown then levelled matters when his deflected shot left the ZOO keeper in no man's land. Brown and Tisi where then replaced by Kettle and Burgis. Things looked tight for a while untill a speculative shot from Wood went in off the post, catching the BIRK keeper unawares. Cummings then picked up his hat-trick with a neat turn and shoot. Wood also grabbed a hat-trick in the unlikeliest manner - another header! Headers are rare as it is due to the head height rule, but ducking down to head is allowed and Wood did it twice, his second putting away a loose bouncing ball. Cummings took his own total to four goals and ZOO's to eight a minute before time, finishing a crisp pass from Brandon. Despite the scoreline both keepers did a lot to keep it less than it could have been.
ZOO: Buckley, Brandon, Cummings, Wood
BIRK: Phalp, Brown (Kettle), Card, Tisi (Burgis)
