CCFC battled for their first win of the season against last year's wooden spooners. The scoreline could have been 4 - 3 but for Walsham missing a penalty and Lerwill slipping up with a weak shot - both going against SOAS. Banks filling in for the absent Walsh was causing SOAS problems all game with one of his goals being sheer class.
SOAS, seriously in need of a consistant goal scorer could have put some of the many chances they had away were held to a goal a piece between Dwyer and Walsham. The latter missed a penalty in which Heagney, CCFC's 'keeper was booked for disent. Ayling found it easier to kick Landers around the pitch as opposed to the ball which saw Landers leave the pitch in a manner not associated with a 'friendly' league. Hajisaavi got two and Ayling the other in a dramatic opener for the season.
The league could have new champions this year as the absence of Walsh, many times CCFC's rescuer could start to show.
CCFC: Heagney, Ayling, Banks, Hajisaavi
SOAS: Lerwill, Dwyer, Landers, Walsham
ACCTS saw the return of Backstron - an influential character who missed much of last season. It was an inspired return and one where his infamous temper didn't play a part.
The first minute saw him latch onto a loose ball in his own half and unleash a low drive into the bottom left. The 'loose ball' was to play a big part in most of the goals due to a lot of scrappy play. This was exactly how UCLH equalised when a half chance saw a scuffed shot go in the bottom left by Sanderson. The only other first half goal came via Backstron again with a half volley from the half way line.
UCLH again equalised after the break when another long shot from a group of bodies went in to the pleasure of O'Driscoll. From here on in it was ACCTS in top gear. Immediatly replying to UCLH's equaliser Backstron hit away a half chance to complete his hat-trick. Not content there, he added another a minute later and should have had his fifth when the ball crossed the line after a 'keeper fumble but the ref's view was obstructed. UCLH's Sanderson was booked for the 3ft rule and Harrington added the fifth goal in the last minute when he blocked a free kick and it rebounded into the far corner of UCLH's goal.
ACCTS: Barros, Backstron, Gordon, Harrington.
UCLH: Bowen, O'Driscoll, Sanderson, Walker.
