WEEK 6: 29/10/97: RESULTS:

UNIVERSITY LONDON UNION 7 - 2 SOBEK

ULU overpowered a subdued SOBEK side with some fast paced action. Within the first minute Tassell cut a neat pass accross goal only for Ferrell to hit over. He made up for it in the third minute when both Avery and Tassell demanded two great saves in a row from Laws but Ferrell's own shot was too much. A minute later he added another after cracking the ball against Avery, it fell kindly and Ferrell swiftly deposited it in the bottom left. Avery then scored after a winding run which turned the defender inside-out shooting under the keeper.

The second half saw Ferrell complete his hat-trick when his shot rebounded off a defender and himself, eventually it reached the back of the goal. Avery then went on to score a screamer. The ball landed next him and he unleashed and thunderous drive from his own half into the top right. SOBEK were under the cosh but started to string some passes together which saw Bailey pass to Lermouth who beat Srawbridge, who always up to that point had positioned himself to stop any chance of goal. A great three pass move involing all outfield players saw Avery collect his own hat-trick when he shot across goal. Lermouth offered Sobek's only other consolation with a deflected shot, before Tassell struck clincally from a free kick to finish matters.

ULU: Strawbridge, Avery, Ferrell, Tassell
SOBEK: Laws, Bailey, Learmouth, Sidhu

BIRKBECK 3 - 2 UCL ZOOLOGY

BIRK had felt their first defeat of the season last week at the hands of ZOO and were obviously in no mood to get turned over again. It might go some way to explaining Burgis's booking in the first minute after crashing a ZOO player against the wall. BIRK scored first when Tisi sent a downfield ball to Card who promptly turned and shot. ZOO replied quickly when Brandon shot wide but Dermas hit in the rebound. ZOO looked to have the better shape at this stage but Card powered a shot home in the sixth minute to settle his side.

BIRK extended their lead early in second half when Card claimed a hat-trick but also a yellow card when a late tackle sent a ZOO player tumbling. Parsons made things edgy for BIRK in the last few minutes when his long shot was too hot to handle. Only some excelent keeping by Phalp stopped ZOO getting the point they probably deserved. BIRK don't appear to be out to make friends with their 'by hook or by crook' play, but may start to notice problems when suspensions hit home.

BIRK: Phalp, Burgis (Brown), Card, Tisi
ZOO: Cummings, Brandon, Dermas, Parsons

SOAS 2 - 2 SENATE HOUSE ACCOUNTS

SOAS picked up their first point of the season which had a lot to do with the presence of Walsh. He scored their first and contrubuted to much of the play. Landers put SOAS two up but also picked up a booking sending him on a two match suspension after only three games.

At half time Walsham went off and SOAS's organistion didn't recover. However it was only smart play from Barros in ACCTS's goal that kept SOAS from their first win. That and two well taken goals from Harrington, himself booked after returning Landers' foul from the first half.

SOAS: Lerwill, Landers, Walsh, Walsham (Dwyer)
ACCTS: Barros, Gordon, Harrington, ?
