2012/13 Season
AGM Matters
- New season
- All teams have confirmed commitment for the new season which will commence on 12th September.
- Fixtures have been sent to teams for circulation.
- Captains are reminded that their team registration forms must be returned to Caroline or one of the groundsmen (see 3.1v) prior to their first game of the season.
- It is hoped that the league will be able to enjoy a full season complete with both cup and trophy competitions and healthy attendance at social events!
- Changes to the Committee Membership and Structure
- As a result of the departure of Lee Heagney from the committee and work/personal commitments of other members, a special meeting was held with all captains on 1st August to discuss the future running of the league and committee membership. It was critical that new volunteers stepped up to take on responsibility as both Scott and Caroline could no longer provide the necessary commitment required to run the league alone. It was also felt that it was important to have .fresh blood. to the committee, which has not changed in its constitution for several years. After discussion amongst captains present on 1st August, the following was agreed:
- Scott will take up the role of Chairman, taking over from Dave Strawbridge. Scott will also continue to update the website.
- Caroline will remain as committee secretary. She will continue the day to day running of the league/admin/AGM etc, but will relinquish some of the additional roles covered for the committee (treasurer, social secretary, groundsman). It was acknowledged that due to work pressures she may not be able to commit to regular attendance at league games.
- Chris Long will take over as social secretary, responsible for social evenings, player awards and trophies
- Chris Metzger joins to replace Lee as Referee Secretary
- Dave Strawbridge will move from Chairman to Treasurer
- Paul di Paolo, Jonathan Firth and Phil Rogers will act as groundsmen, ensuring adequate presence each week.
Rules
The following were raised and discussed:
- If an attacking player enters the opposing keeper.s area then there should be a goal kick rather than a free kick outside the area to maintain the speed/flow of the game.
- It was clarified that within current rules, the free kick is only awarded if the player touches the ball in the box or runs through to gain an advantage. It also allows for the referee to ensure the player is aware that this is not permitted. It was also noted that the referee does have some discretion to allow the game to play on in some circumstances.
- Captains voted unanimously that they did not support a change to the current rules.
- The Chair raised concerns about the physical .wrestling. behaviour that was evident in some games last season. There was mixed opinion amongst captains as to whether they considered the league to have become more physical or aggressive but all supported efforts to maintain the healthy, friendly and fair ethos of the league.
- Captains agreed to the proposal of referees being asked to be more strict in their enforcement of the rules . booking players for a bookable offense (rather than .a few words., or given the benefit of the doubt), and to stopping and using a drop ball where players are considered to both be overly physical to prevent such behaviour persisting or escalating.
- Captains agreed to communicate this to their teams. Chris M will also pass this on to referees.
- Concern was raised about the advantage that is handed to a team (or indeed another team with an interest in the result) when the opposing team only puts out three players, which could allow a team to build up a high score and skew the golden boot tally. Not all captains perceived this to be a problem that needed to be resolved. It was accepted that since this was not a regular occurrence and that any alternative would be difficult to implement or gain overwhelming support for, no changes would be proposed, but the situation would be monitored this season.

13/04/12: FIXTURE CHANGES
Dear all,
Yesterday we received notification from ULU that complete refurbishment will
be carried out to changing rooms throughout June, July and August. During
this time, there will be no access to showers and Studio Base 2 will be
converted into temporary changing facilities. This obviously has serious
implications for the remaining fixtures of the league and we are left with
very few options to consider.
In light of this, and to limit the number of games we would be expecting
teams to play with limited facilities, we will be reducing the season by
removing the trophy competition. This means that next week's games will
be as those originally scheduled for 9th May.
The remaining fixtures are available on the
Fixtures Page
We do not know when in June the works will commence so it may be that we
can get through most without too much disruption. Obviously if plans change
we may be able to add the trophy competition to the end of the season.
We realise that this is very short notice and sincerely apologise for this,
but we have only just received the news ourselves.
AGM Minutes
- 1. End of season report
- 1.1 The University Indoor Football League 2010/11 season saw a new name on the champion's shield. The Institute of Education were crowned champions in a winner takes all match against UCL Finance.
- 1.2 Finance won the UIFL Trophy, coming back from 2 - 0 down against UCL Zoology and win the trophy for the fifth time. SOAS took the UIFL Cup, beating Finance in the final.
- 1.3 There were seven bookings throughout the season and one suspension which was imposed post event which is addressed under item 3 of the agenda.
- 1.4 There were ten walkovers in the league last season, seven of which were Sobek's and one each from SOAS, Zoo and FRMS.
- 1.5 The Christmas Social was held at the Duke of York and was well attended.
- 1.6 The Presentation Night returned to the College Arms after a gap of over ten years and a busy night saw CCFC win both the supporters award and the Fair Play Shield. Steve Garnett collected the golden boot after scoring 37 league goals and Richard Palmer won the coveted UIFL Player of the Year award.
- 2. New season
- 2.1 All teams have now confirmed commitment for the 2011-12 season which will commence on 14th September 2011 and end on 25th July 2012. Stewart House will be changing their team colours to royal blue.
- 2.2 Fixtures for the new season have been circulated to captains.
- 2.3 Captains are reminded to bring their completed Team Registration forms to their first game.
- 3. Rules
- 3.1 The following were raised and discussed to aid clarification:
- 3.1.1 Distribution from Goalkeeper: those present voted and all agreed that if a keeper throws the ball out over head height, a free kick will be awarded to the other team (three feet from the edge of the box). This will now be added to the rules to replace the current rule whereby the ball is given back to the keeper in such instances.
- 3.1.2 Those present voted and all agreed that the rules should clearly state that when penalties are taken, players not involved should be behind the ball.
- 3.1.3 The issue of drop balls was also discussed and it was agreed by all that should a player make contact with the ball before it has touched the floor, a free kick will be awarded to the other team.
- 3.1.4 There was a lengthy discussion on how the league deals with matters of violent conduct following the events that took place this year at the cup final which led to a player being given a six match ban. The following was agreed by all:
That there will be an amendment to the rules which will state that any player receiving a red card will be subject to a ban of between 2 to 6 matches or possibly a lifetime ban.
Referees will be asked to provide a brief written report detailing the reason for issuing the card immediately after the game, which will then be submitted to the committee. If the red card is given for two yellows, then a two match ban will be enforced. If it is deemed to be as a result of serious foul play or violent conduct, the length of the ban will be agreed via captain votes (from all teams).
- 3.2 Teams are reminded of the importance of kicking off at the scheduled times (12.30, 12.50 and 1.10).
- 4. Referees
- 4.1 Following the departure of Chris Bird, the current group of referees will be joined by Richard Palmer and Jules Willocks, both of IOE.
- 5. AOB
- 5.1 The Christmas social will take place on 7th December 2011. It is expected that the venue will remain as Duke of York Pub, Rathbone Place. Details to be confirmed nearer the time.
