Forget The Future, AI Will Take Us Back To The Past

AI is the future, and it's also the past. Not just in the sense of having been developed in previous years and decades, but also in the sense of being capable of recreating human history. This power was highlighted vividly by a study published at the end of August by researchers from University College London and Duke University, who managed to use artificial intelligence to create separate representations of two images that had been painted on both sides of a single panel...

Hidden works of Goya, Van Gogh and Van Eyck could be discovered using artifical intelligence

Most works of Goya, Van Gogh and Van Eyck could be discovered after scientists developed an artificially intelligent algorithm which can spot earlier images in x-rays of paintings...

AI reveals the hidden layers of great art

Scientists say they have “spectacularly” improved the clarity of X-ray images of what lies beneath old paintings, helping art historians and restorers to understand and protect great works. What’s more, they didn’t really expect the results of their work to be quite so good...

Artificial intelligence uncovers new details about Old Master paintings

Artificial intelligence has been used to analyse high-resolution digital X-ray images of the world famous Ghent Altarpiece, as part of an investigative project led by UCL...

AI uncovers new details about Old Master paintings

Artificial intelligence can be used to analyse high-resolution digital X-ray images of paintings, providing more insight for conservators and those restoring classic works of art. A new algorithm was developed and used on the world famous Ghent Altarpiece, as part of an investigative project led by UCL. The finding is expected to improve our understanding of art masterpieces and provide new opportunities for art investigation, conservation and presentation...

AI Reveals Long-Hidden Secrets of World’s Art Masterpieces

Scientists are using artificial intelligence to analyze X-ray images of paintings, sorting through the massive amounts of data available and offering potential new insights that could aid investigations into unlocking the secrets of ancient works of art, according to new research published Friday...

AI and x-rays help reveal artistic mysteries

A project led by University College London has used AI and x-ray imaging to investigate an art masterpiece in an entirely new way. The 15th-century Ghent Altarpiece is a multi-panel artwork painted by Dutch brothers Hubert and Jan van Eyck in St Bavo’s Cathedral in Ghent, Belgium. Researchers from the National Gallery, Duke University and UCL developed an algorithm to study mixed x-ray images containing features from the front and back of the painting’s double-sided panels, which scientists have deconstructed into two clear images...
